NTC Promenade/NTC Foundation
Step in the Right DirectionBuilt in 1941, the Navel Training Center Library was one of the few areas accessible to all on base where sailors could spend their free time relaxing with a good book. Designed by the Navy Public Works center and built by a local contractor, the Library makes good use of proportioned openings and massing; its prominent tiled roof reflects roofs of similar buildings nearby; and an attached arcade provides design continuity with arcade forms in other parts of the base. The rehabilitation efforts include exterior arcade lights which were custom-fabricated using the original drawings; rehabilitation and reuse of all the original lavatory fixtures; returning to the original paint color scheme; and replication of the original wooden doors.
