Steve Berry
New York Times Bestselling Author

National Book Launch, Writers Workshop, & Reception
Marston House - 3525 Seventh Avenue
in Balboa Park

Steve BerrySave Our Heritage Organisation and History Matters Foundation present Lessons from a Bestseller; a writers workshop featuring international and New York Times best selling author Steve Berry, in conjunction with the national book launch of his latest novel, The Columbus Affair, followed by a reception at the Marston House.

Berry and his wife Elizabeth founded History Matters, a foundation to assist communities around the world with historic restoration and preservation."Preservation of our heritage is a vital link to cultural, educational, aesthetic, inspirational, and economic legacies, all of the things that quite literally make us who we are," said Berry.

This is a unique opportunity to meet the author in person, learn from his struggles and long road to publication, hear about how history inspires his writing, and be the very first to purchase your copy of The Columbus Affair and have him sign it personally at the reception.

SOHO's Education and Communications director Alana Coons says, "We are delighted to bring this special event to the Marston House to benefit the grounds restoration. These funds will go directly to replication of the historic lights and William Templeton Johnson-designed benches, to return them to the formal gardens after more than 50 years. We are especially thankful to Steve Berry's foundation and the generous donation of his time and expenses. This is a wonderful opportunity for writers and readers who wish to understand more about the creation of the books they love, and to gain insight into the author's world."

About the Workshop & Book Launch
In the four-hour workshop Steve Berry will pass on valuable information and insight to writers of all levels of ability, including:

  • The Four "C's" of Writing - How to structure books for maximum impact.
  • Point of View and Dialog - How much dialog should there be, and how it should be included.
  • 10 Rules of Writing - The rules Steve learned during his early years that give writers the basic information they will need to craft their own story.
  • The Business of Publishing - Elizabeth Berry joins Steve to explain how to sell your work, including agents, editors and publishers. Drawing on her expertise as the executive director of International Thriller Writers and her work as a literary marketing and sales professional, she will discuss the path to publishing, both traditional and non-traditional, and what it takes in today's world to make it as an author. Being heavily involved with her husband Steve's book promotional activities, Berry can share many a valuable secret to would-be authors.

Steve will also discuss his newest novel, The Columbus Affair, and the importance of historic preservation for the writing community.
