In 2019, the City of San Diego Historical Resources Board added 34 new landmarks to the city's roster, including 32 houses, an archaeological site, and the 1932 Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company Garage. This total was down from 2018, when the HRB designated 40 properties and one historic district. San Diego County designated two residences.
Sweeping changes boosted preservation in El Cajon and National City. The El Cajon City Council unanimously designated the Charlotte Hall Family Ranch House, a Folk Victorian home built around 1886. This grand house of a founding family qualified for designation under an almost unheard of five criteria, and brings El Cajon;s total official historic sites to three. National City, on the other hand, designated 26 houses and the Stein Farm with one City Council vote.
For your reference and reading pleasure, here are all the new landmarks, each accompanied by a photograph and description by SOHO staff Amie Hayes and Marlena Krcelich.
