Volunteer ProfileGeorge Plum George Plum, a native of Chicago with a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling, moved to San Diego from Michigan in 1999. He began volunteering at the Old Town Boosters Book Store, then at the State Park, and then finally settling in at the Whaley House. George has become a charming fixture at the Whaley House Museum and has faithfully volunteered as a docent every Monday and Wednesday since beginning in February, 2001. He is extremely knowledgeable about San Diego history and when dressed in his period attire he is quite convincing as a character from that bygone era. George is a loyal member of SOHO, volunteering for all SOHO events related to the house and preservation. We especially loved his portrait of Thomas Wrightington for all three nights of the Haunted Halloween Tours. George's son John lives in Santa Barbara and visits whenever possible, they enjoy historic sites and museums together. George can always be counted on, he loves giving tours and visitors often remark on his friendliness and knowledge of history. George is a valued member of the SOHO team and we are blessed to have him. |
