The California Preservation Foundation
Chooses San Diego for Conference in 2001
By Vonn Marie May
The California Preservation Foundation is coming next spring, May 17-20, 2001 for their annual statewide historic preservation conference. This is exciting news since CPF hasn't graced our region since 1979. We are looking forward to welcoming them with open arms, at the ready, to show off San Diego, and to highlight issues that have statewide interest as well.
The conference will include educational sessions, mobile workshops, tours, an auction and great special events, ie; the Opening Reception at the House of Hospitality, Three Minute Success (trademarked) at the Berkeley, CPF's Annual Membership Meeting, and Gala at the Catamaran Hotel ala Polynesia.
We have begun the process of setting up a local steering committee and guess what? We need some help from SOHO folks who want to participate in hosting this event.
Preservation conferences are some of the rewards we get for being involved in preservation advocacy. It feels good to be surrounded by throngs of people who feel the same way you do. You can exchange ideas, experiences and research as part of the human lore that keeps our history alive. Give us a call!
