Considered a hard, durable wood, the Chinese elm is used for veneer, cabinet making, hard wood floors, and tool handles. Ulmus parvifolia is a hardy tree to heights of 60 feet, imported to Europe in the 19th century and later to the United States, the Chinese elm is a popular choice in gardens and parks. These trees were mentioned by Percy Broell in 1937 and are likely from the original plantings circa late 1920s.
