This very large tree can reach heights of 120 feet and is native to wet swampy environments of the southeast United States. It has been imported around the world due to its ability to grow well in various climatic and soil conditions. Its use as timber is widely known as it produces a strong building material. It also exhibits waterproof characteristics and is used for boats and wharfs.
