Solanum rantonnettii
BLUE POTATO BUSH
Solanaceae family
South America/Paraguay
A small dense shrub Solanum rantonnetii has been used in cultivation for at least a hundred years in the warm Southern California climate. Originally from South America, specifically Paraguay, the blue potato bush is a member of the nightshade family. Presidio Park's Solanum rantonnetii is noted by Percy Broell in 1937 and continues to grow in the same location he planted it. It was also noted in Chauncy Jerabek's plant walk of 1969.
