Salvia mellifera
BLACK SAGE
Lamiaceae family
S CA/N Baja (coastal)
Found in the coastal scrub habitats of northern Baja and southern California, Salvia mellifera is drought tolerant and turns very dark during dry periods, hence the common name, black sage. This 3-foot shrub produces white, to light blue flowers, spring into summer and survives well in various soil and moisture conditions.
