Cleveland sage is a native species endemic to the coastal ranges of northern Baja and Southern California. It grows to heights of 5 feet and has green leaves with purple flowers on foot long stalks. Named by Asa Gray in 1874 in honor of Daniel Cleveland co-founder of the Natural History Herbarium. Salvia clevelandii is a popular landscape plant for xeriscaping purposes as it takes full sun and needs little water once established.
