Developed in 1903 by Henri Cayeux at the Lisbon Botanic Gardens the belle of Portugal is likely a cross of "Reine Marie Henriette" and Rosa gigantea. It is a vigorous climber that grows well in mild to warm climates responding poorly to frost.
