A popular sturdy shrub with strong stout leaves, it bears fragrant small white flowers in early summer followed by dark berries, Rhaphiolepis umbellata var. ovata originates from Japan and the Korean Peninsula and can grow to heights 4-6 feet. Yeddow hawthorne is drought tolerant once established and can be trimmed to be a hedge. The common name "yeddow" is the anglicized form of a Japanese word "Yeddo," which is the former name of Tokyo, Japan.
