Endemic to the Iberian Peninsula and parts of northwest Africa this oak species reaches heights of 60 feet and has been used as a crop species for hundreds of years. Quercus suber produces the common cork used in many products including wine corks. The cork cannot be harvested until the tree reaches about 30 years of age and is then harvested every 9-12 years thereafter.
