Pyracantha
FIRETHORN
Rosaceae family
Southern SE Europe to SE Asia
There are at least seven species of Pyracntha. In Percy Broell's plant identification (1937) he mentions Pyracantha fortuneana, Pyracantha crenulata, Pyracantha iaiandi, and Pyracantha angustifolia. Chauncy Jerabek mentions Pyracantha in 1969 but assigns no species. Likely the majority of what grows in Presidio Park is Pyracantha angustifolia but there exist two other possible species in the park. The plants produce small white flowers followed by orange to red pome fruits along thorny branches.
