Prunus persica
PEACH TREE
Rosaceae family
NW China
The common peach tree is a native tree to the northwest region of China and has a long history documented in the books and writings of ancient cultures. References to Prunus persica date back 4000 years. Prunus persica produces a large edible fruit and the tree can grow to heights of 30 feet. It gives beautiful spring flowers of pink or rosea colors. Peach trees are short lived trees with a life span of 15-20 years indicating Presidio Park's P. persica specimens are recent plantings.
