Prunus ilicifolia HOLLYLEAF CHERRY
Endemic to coastal central and southern California as well as coastal Baja California this hardy medium sized fruit bearing tree was used by indigenous peoples for various uses. It produces a red to black fruit that is edible. The genus Prunus in Latin means plum-like, and ilicifolia refers to the holly-like appearance of the leaves of Prunus ilicifolia and is an important component of the chaparral ecosystem of California. |
