This native of the southeast United States is a small to medium sized tree that can reach a maximum height of 35 feet. Small elongated clusters of flowers appear in spring and early summer amongst the groupings of leaves. A hardy Prunus species, Prunus caroliniana prefers moist conditions but can tolerate dry spells and poor soil conditions.
