Plumbago capensis CAPE PLUMBAGO
An evergreen shrub that that can reach heights of 10 feet, although they usually do not get that high in Southern California without assistance, instead Plumbago auriculata is usually found between 4-6 feet. This South African native is not mentioned by Percy Broell but is noted in the 1969 Chauncy Jerabek plant identification. The species name was given by French naturalist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (1744-1829) in 1786. In Latin auriculata means "with ears" referring to the shape of the leaves. |
