Pittosporum undulatum
VICTORIAN BOX
Pittosporaceae family
Coastal E Australia
As the species epithet indicates this Pittosporum shows leaves that undulate. Pittosporum undulatum can reach heights of 45 feet and displays typical Pittosporum flowers and fruit. The flowers are produced within a cluster of oblong leaves and then yellow to orange fruit is borne. The Victorian box is considered a good drought tolerant plant that can withstand some harsh climatic conditions. In Presidio Park, the current drought coupled with old age has caused many of the older Pittosporum undulatum to struggle or expire. Presidio Park's scattered specimens are large, but they do struggle and may soon need to be removed. Percy Broell did indicate in 1937 that Pittosporum undulatum was in fact a current species of that time.
