One of the 200 species in the genus Pittosporum, the willow Pittosporum is native to interior regions of Australia and is erect taking on a "weeping" form. It is a drought tolerant, slow growing plant that can be trained into a tree. The Pittosporum phillyraeoides is mentioned in Chauncy Jerabek's 1969 plant identification as well as by park superintendent Percy Broell in 1937, making it one of the original Presidio Park plantings under the direction of George Marston.
