Opuntia vulgaris

DROOPING PRICKLY PEARS

Opuntia vulgaris is sometimes confused with, and used as a synonym for Opuntia ficus-indica in publication. Presidio Park's species of Opuntia vulgaris are separate from Opuntia ficus-indica and is likely Opuntia monacantha. First described by English botanist and Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, Adrian Hardy Haworth (1767-1833), the drooping prickly pear is native to Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It has a drooping appearance with elongated pads that produce lovely yellow, and yellow-reddish flowers.
