Nerium oleander

OLEANDER

Apocynaceae family Unknown-possibly SW Asia

This tall shrub has beautiful flowers of various hues. It is however, well known for its high toxicity and has become naturalized in many regions of the world. Brought to California late 19th or early 20th century the Nerium oleander was a good choice due to its hardiness and drought tolerant characteristics but having since escaped cultivation it has become an invasive weed in places like California.
