This large native tree of the southeast United States is an evergreen tree that can grow to heights of 90-120 feet. It is pyramidal in shape and produces large fragrant flowers, thus the Latin epitaph grandiflora, meaning large flower - it is very attractive to pollen seekers. Its timber is hard and heavy useful in furniture and veneer manufacturing. Magnolia grandiflora has a steeped history in Southern lore. It can today be found in warm and temperate climates worldwide.
