Eucalyptus viminalis

MANNA GUM

Myrtaceae family SE Australia

Another of the koala favorites this large tree produces a sap with a sugar content of up to 15%, making it a favorite of Australian marsupials, as well as with ants. The wood is considered too soft for commercial use but does have a distinctive pink or reddish hue. The Eucalyptus viminalis is a large tree and can grow to heights of more than 120 feet. Because it is native to the cooler regions of southern Australia, including Tasmania the manna gum is cold hardy and can be planted in some parts of southern Europe.
