Eucalyptus robusta
SWAMP MAHOGANY
Myrtaceae family
E Australia
Native to water logged and swampy regions of coastal east Australia this hard wood is a favorite of the koala. It produces white to creamy flowers in autumn and winter and grows to heights upwards of 100 feet in its native environment where it typically grows at altitudes of 150 feet or lower. The wood is harvested for construction purposes and also considered a good firewood. In 1793 James Edward Smith and George Shaw described Eucalyptus robusta in Zoology and Botany of New Holland, the first book written on the flora of Australia.
