Eucalyptus polyanthemos
SILVER DOLLAR GUM
Myrtaceae family
SE Australia
In California Eucalyptus polyanthemos is commonly called the silver dollar gum due to the elliptical shape of the leaves and their silver color but in its native Australia is it referred to as the red box. Having grey-green ovate leaves it can grow to heights of 80 feet with flowers in spring or summer. First described by German botanist Johannes Schauer in 1843 from a specimen collected by Allan Cunningham in 1822, the Eucalyptus polyanthemos is native to southern New South Wales and southeast Victoria.
