Eucalyptus lehmannii/conferruminata
BUSHY YATE
Myrtaceae family
Extreme SW Australia
Eucalyptus lehmannii is considered a mallee and grows to heights of 25 or 30 feet. It produces an interesting flower and pod, with multiple horn shaped buds extruding from a single 3-4 inch central core. The flowers are green and resemble a ball. Although the bushy yate is a mallee (a small tree of multiple stocks with the canopy at the top) it can be often be found as a single trunked tree. Such is the case in Presidio Park. There are numerous Eucalyptus lehmannii growing as single trunked trees, due to pruning, old age or otherwise. In the 1980s botanists confirmed that the majority of Eucalyptus lehmannii sold over the years since importation began may actually be Eucalyptus conferruminata. The bushy yate is native to a very small geographic area in the southernmost part of Western Australia near Albany.
