Eucalyptus crebra
NARROWLEAF RED IRONBARK
Myrtaceae family
SE Australia
The epithet "crebra" in Latin means "close together" or "crowded." This is due to the Eucalyptus crebra leaf formation. Ironbark flower in white and pink. It has dark, iron colored, furrowed bark growing to heights of 100 feet. First described by Victoria's State Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in 1859 Eucalyptus crebra is endemic to coastal east Australia. Its wood is considered very hard and very strong, useful for construction of bridges, poles and wharfs. In Presidio Park multiple Eucalyptus crebra stand just south of, and uphill from the Serra Museum in what has traditionally been called the Eucalyptus Grove where many other species of Eucalyptus can be found.
