Eriobotrya japonica is a small tree or bush that is grown commercially as well as ornamentally. Native to south central China its apricot like fruits have been grown for a 1000 years as food and are included in many dishes including jams, jellies, pies, and tarts. High in fiber, magnesium, potassium, and Vitamin A, the loquat has now been naturalized in Afghanistan, Pakistan, South Africa, Australia, Kenya, and many other places in the world where its fruit is highly valued.
