Dudleya pulverulenta

CHALK LETTUCE

Crassulaceae family SW U.S./ NW Mexico

The flat pale green leaves of this native succulent are covered with a chalky wax designed to protect it from hot sun rays and water loss from evaporation. Native to the southwest United States and parts of northwest Mexico, the Dudleya pulverulenta is found on rocky cliffs both along the coast and inland. Presidio Park is no exception, they can be observed on several of the steep cliffs found in Presidio Park.
