Cotyledon orbiculata
PIG'S EAR
Crassulaceae family
SW westernAfrica/W Namibia/S Angola
A low ground cover succulent the Cotyledon orbiculata derives its common name from the hollowed out and curved nature of each lobe. It is native to dry regions of Angola, Namibia, and South Africa, where it typically is found in rocky crags and on cliffs. In winter it shoots out a stunning semi-circle of downward hanging bell shaped flowers, which are attractive to nectar seekers. Presidio Park has at least three separate clusters of Cotyledon orbiculata, two of which cling to the side of a steep cliff.
