Presidio Park Plant Survey

Cotoneaster pannosus

SILVER LEAF COTONEASTER

Rosaceae family S central China

A native of south China these have spread around the world and have become invasive in some place such as South Africa, and yet has simply naturalized in others. Cotoneaster pannosus is likely an original plant species planted by Percy Broell during the original Presidio Park planting of the early 1930s. Characteristically they have long slender branches that extend up and then arch downward. The leaves are green with silver undersides and the orange fruit can make them stand out when in season. The orange small fruits grow in clusters and are favorites of birds, thus making seed dissemination prolific.
