Butia capitata
PINDO PALM/JELLY PALM
Arecaceae family
Argentina/Brazil/Paraguay
Butia capitata is a medium sized palm that has long blue-grey v-shaped fronds that arch away from the center and bend back again almost to the point of touching the trunk. These produce a delicious edible fruit used in jellies and jams. Native to southern Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina the Butia capitata can survive temperatures down to 12 degrees Fahrenheit. This is why the pindo palm can be found in Seattle, New York City, and London.
