Bauhinia purpurea

PURPLE ORCHID TREE

Bauhinia purpurea produces 6-12-inch elongated seed pods along with its orchid like flowers. This Bauhinia blakeana hybrid does not produce seed pods, but equally as beautiful, it is commonly found around the world. It is native to the southeast region of Asia. These have many medicinal and homeopathic uses. Many cultures have utilized the leaves, seeds, roots and bark for ailments related to stomach ulcers, wounds and swollen glands. The medical industry continues to study the Bauhinia purpurea for possible future uses.
