Aloe arborescens
TREE (KRANTZ) ALOE
Asphodelaceae family
Southeast South Africa
One of the few Aloes that are found to grow in mountain highlands as well as warm sea level regions, these Aloes can reach heights of 9 feet. The "krantz" name is likely a reflection of the Afrikaans word for rocky outcrop or rocky cliffs, as Aloe arborescens flourish in rocky out crops of Southeast South Africa. In Presidio Park a large specimen has grown to encircle the former Fort Stockton, where the flag of the United States of America has stood since 1848.
