WELCOME TO SOHO's first-ever online celebration of the People In Preservation awards!
Each year SOHO honors a group of esteemed groups, organizations, and individuals for their excellence in preserving our region's rich and diverse heritage. Now in our 37th year, we continue to be impressed by the excellence of projects occurring all across the San Diego community.
We hope that our online event brings our members and the public some joy and solace during these difficult times. It is the event many of you, and we, look forward to the most.
We are honored to present these nine awards. SOHO maintains high standards in choosing each winner, and the PIP awards are of the highest caliber in the region. The 2020 winners join a group of preservationists whose dedication and perseverance have and will continue to shape the San Diego community for years to come. We not only celebrate their work but the work of all those who have come before them and the road they continue to pave for those who will come after.
SOHO would also like to take this moment to acknowledge the momentous California Historic Tax Credit (HTC) legislation recently passed, introduced by State Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins. We also thank the California Preservation Foundation (CPF) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) California Council for co-sponsoring this crucial legislation, which was met with unanimous bipartisan support. On behalf of all San Diegans who treasure our historic places, thank you Senator Atkins.
In addition to the awards we are about to present, winners are being recognized with commendations from City of San Diego councilmembers Barbara Bry and Chris Ward, and Deputy Mayor of Encinitas Kellie Hinze.
CONGRATULATIONS to all this year's People In Preservation award winners! We hope you're as impressed and inspired by their dedication and achievements as we are. Thank you for supporting SOHO and preservation excellence!
