Rebecca & Michael Murphy
Residential Restoration Award
History is thriving in this recently restored Mission Hills residence built in 1928. Crowning a steep rise, the home has been occupied by the same family for three generations!
With an abundance of decorative exterior arches, the house is a delightful embodiment of 1920s Mission Revival architecture. Upon arriving into the hands of the latest generation of owners, it was largely still intact architecturally, but, like many long- and well-loved family homes, it needed a lot of TLC. The original mahogany windows were deteriorating, the front porch roof was failing, the concrete foundation wall was spalling, and the exterior needed repainting. Nevertheless, the new owners were determined to be good stewards of their family's legacy. They fixed their home's many issues, honoring the historic fabric while faithfully restoring it to its original appearance.
Like a newly polished jewel, the cherished home of the Murphy family has been brought back to life thanks to the dedication of Rebecca and Michael Murphy.
