Harmonious Addition Award
This recipe for success calls for the following ingredients: A serious cook, a small kitchen in a 1946 home, architect William Kesling and a preservation architect who understand the Modernist adage "less is more." The jury expressed its great pleasure, saying: "This residential addition in Bird Rock seamlessly blends the old with the new, and is exactly what preservationists like to see! The kitchen and laundry area were modernized with this modest addition. Using an existing exterior wall, the architect was able to conceal the addition from the street view and meet all the owners' needs, while adding only 85 square feet to the house. Furthermore, William Kesling is often underappreciated, so we are excited to be able to showcase one of his residential designs."
