Mission Hills Heritage
Community Preservation
Like many communities, Mission Hills faces development pressures that threaten the very fabric of its character. When a new development was slated that would among other things demolish several historic commercial buildings, the community reacted by forming an advocacy organization dedicated to preserving Mission Hills. Now, this powerhouse volunteer organization has re-ignited a sense of community pride through a website, newsletter, home tours and a presence at city hall. The dedication and perseverance to educate, advocate, and to provide a strong voice for the Mission Hills community is to be highly commended. The jury also made special note of the group's Family Album Day project. The importance of preserving a community's heritage is many fold and they have shown great forethought with this project. The people involved with this organization care deeply for their community, they work tirelessly to find ways to protect and preserve it. Each neighborhood in San Diego should be as fortunate to have such dedicated citizens.
SOHO recognizes Brian and Kim Adler, Barry Hager, Betty and Carl Hauck, Allen Hazard and Janet O'Dea, John Ford, Ron May, Tom Mullaney, Valerie Seyfert, and Marcy VanStee of Mission Hills Heritage with the Community Preservation "On a Mission" award.
