NTC Promenade/NTC Foundation
Built in 1941, the Navel Training Center Library was one of the few areas accessible to all on base where sailors could spend their free time relaxing with a good book. Designed by the Navy Public Works center and built by a local contractor, the Library makes good use of proportioned openings and massing; its prominent tiled roof reflects roofs of similar buildings nearby; and an attached arcade provides design continuity with arcade forms in other parts of the base. The rehabilitation efforts include exterior arcade lights which were custom-fabricated using the original drawings; rehabilitation and reuse of all the original lavatory fixtures; returning to the original paint color scheme; and replication of the original wooden doors. |
