Irving Gill: Architect, Poet & Humanist
Lecture by keynote speaker M. Wayne Donaldson, FAIA
Our opening weekend begins with a reception with light refreshments and open house style tours of the Gill-designed 1910 First Church of Christ, Scientist at Second Avenue and Laurel Street in Bankers Hill, followed by a short presentation on the First Church restoration. Then our keynote speaker, Milford Wayne Donaldson, FAIA. Donaldson, Chairman of the national Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and formerly the State Historic Preservation Officer for the state of California, will present Irving Gill: Architect, Poet & Humanist, a penetrating look at Gill, a man better known for his stripped-down Modernism than for his artistic and poetic aims linked to Progressive social reforms. Afterward, in addition to the program, for those who wish may stay, for more touring.
