Villa Montezuma

One of San Diego's most beautiful architectural treasures, this landmark 1887 Queen Anne Victorian residence in Sherman Heights is owned by the City of San Diego, which is violating its own Demolition by Neglect Ordinance by not maintaining the site. It is presently under the control of the San Diego Historical Society, but the house has been closed to the public since and is deteriorating on a daily basis. The threat of vandalism - or worse, is dire. Immediate steps must be taken to secure its safety and improve its current condition. The unconscionable treatment of such a rare and valuable resource was even highlighted in a recent, although highly flawed, County of San Diego Grand Jury investigation report which chastised the City and recommended making the Villa's restoration a top priority.
