Today, the Marston House is operated for the City of San Diego by Save Our Heritage Organisation. For the last half century, SOHO's own efforts have paralleled many of Marston's: to preserve, promote, and support preservation of the region's architectural, cultural, and historical links and landmarks.

In 1974, the city and the San Diego Historical Society, which George Marston founded, signed an agreement for the Society to manage and operate the house, which, beginning in 1987, they did for 22 years. The city turned it over to SOHO in 2009.
