San Diego Army Navy Y.M.C.A., 1882
As its first president, he would serve 22 years, and, as a member of the board, 62 years. The 1924 six-story Army-Navy YMCA building would provide recreational activities to San Diego's many enlisted military men. George chaired the drive to raise over one million dollars for the site and its construction. San Diego County's YMCA has grown from serving 150 men in 1882 to more than 300,000 people today.
