Anna L. Marston, 1853-1940
As matriarch, Anna instilled the family norms, rituals and traditions that her family carried on for generations. She was president of the Congregational Women's Missionary Society of Southern California and founder and board member of the San Diego Children's Home. Managing a complex and busy home, many visitors from ministers to President Theodore Roosevelt to African-American leader Booker T. Washington filled the dinner table nearly every Sunday.
