Repair or Adaptively Reuse
Old Town began documenting its historic resources in the 1930s. Marston worked with others to repair or adaptively reuse a number of sites, such as the Casa de Machado-Silvas adobe as a community church. He engaged architect Richard Requa to transform the Casa de Pico into a tourist motor hotel, and he commissioned Cliff May to renovate the El Campo Santo cemetery walls.
Daughter, Mary, wrote that "in the rejuvenation of Old Town father's most important contributions were the building of the golf course, his assistance to the Cardwells in building the Pico Motel, and his help in making possible the Old San Diego Community Church."
