November/December 2024
Leslie Hubbard Crawford will discuss her book, Coronado, on November 9, 2024 as part of SOHO’s popular Penning the Past webinar series. |
Our inaugural year of exploring our county’s architectural and cultural past with our popular Penning the Past webinar series concludes November 9, 2024, when Leslie Hubbard Crawford talks about Coronado. Register for this monthly Saturday morning event, if you haven’t already.
Fans of the Penning the Past series won’t want to miss meeting the authors during Museum Store Sunday on December 1, 2024, at the Marston House Museum Shop, 3525 Seventh Avenue, San Diego. Join us for a day dedicated to discovering meaningful holiday gifts that celebrate and support preservation. From captivating books on San Diego’s heritage to handcrafted items inspired by historical architecture, the shop offers one-of-a-kind finds for everyone on your list. Each purchase directly supports SOHO’s preservation efforts, allowing you to shop with purpose and help keep our community’s stories alive.
For this special event, several of our 2024 presenters will be on hand to discuss and sign copies of their books. Here’s the schedule: Katherine Hon (North Park), 10am-2pm; Gary Mitrovich (Lakeside), 12-2pm; and Thomas J. Cesarini (Little Italy), 12-4pm. Books will be available in the museum shop (SOHO members enjoy a 15% discount!) or feel free to bring your own copies for signing.
Penning the Past will return next year with another great lineup. Beginning the 2025 series on February 8 is author Sandra Bonura, presenting a well-known historical figure based on her biography, Empire Builder: John D. Spreckels and the Making of San Diego. On March 8, Kristi Hawthorne, the Oceanside Historical Society director, will discuss The History of Oceanside; followed on April 12 by David Marshall and Eileen Magno of Heritage Architecture and Planning with Forgotten San Diego.
Penning the Past is free for SOHO members and $10 per lecture for non-members. Past presentations can be viewed on SOHO’s YouTube channel and the featured books and many others on San Diego history and architecture are available at the Marston House Museum Shop, open Saturdays and Sundays 10am-4pm.
