The Warner-Carrillo Stagecoach Rides Again!
November/December 2021
Don't miss Sunday, November 14, 2021, when SOHO's long-awaited, annual celebration of the Butterfield stage route with stagecoach rides will be held from noon to 4pm at the Warner-Carrillo Ranch House Museum in Warner Springs (last stage leaves at 3:15). Visitors to this historic stage stop will experience what it was like to ride the Butterfield Overland Stage Route. From 1858 to 1861, the longest stage route in the world—from St. Louis to San Francisco and stopping here—was, as the historic pamphlet Tips to Stagecoach Passengers says, "no pleasure ride."
SOHO's authentic replica Concord Stage is pulled by two dashing horses. Head Docent Kathryn Fletcher, stage driver Sioux Munyon, SOHO staff, and volunteers in period dress will provide local color while offering tours, serving refreshments, and helping passengers board the stage. Everyone is welcome to take photographs and enjoy the atmosphere provided by the Victorian Roses Ladies Riding Society, Jugless Jug Band, folk duo Nathan and Jessie, and the Hole in the Wall Gang, who have been known to rob the stage en route. A handmade quilt by Nan Rebik will be raffled and quilters will demonstrate their craft. You can take in improved and enriched displays in the ranch house and an expanded museum shop while waiting for the stage.
Tickets to ride the stage are $25 for members and $35 for non members, and are limited and must be purchased in advance on SOHO's website HERE. While you're on SOHOsandiego.org, consider becoming a member. To simply enjoy the celebration and ranch house museum tour, admission can be paid the day of the event and is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children under 12. Kids five and under are free.
All aboard!
