New for the Marston House Museum Shop for Fall - Plus End of Summer Sale
September/October 2024
Depending on the source, it seems scarves originated in ancient Egypt, ancient China, or ancient Rome, and they are still a dramatic, romantic, or flirtatious go-to fashion accessory today. Our new line of lightweight viscose scarves from Studio Hop includes a variety of striking designs, some with shimmering gold or silver foil figures. |
If 100% silk scarves are more to your liking, we offer a stunning new line from Signare, featuring designs by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, William Morris, and May Morris. Be sure to check out our terrific Signare umbrellas, too! |
Texas Bookman offers 3-pack mini notebooks with compelling cover designs by Angela Harding, a British artist renowned for linocut and silkscreen prints of birds and wildlife, as well as other talented artists. These minis are perfect for stashing in your glove compartment, pocket, or purse—ideal for jotting down to-do lists, SOHO tour times, mileage tracking, and more. |
This fall, the Marston House Museum Shop is excited to introduce new product lines alongside some of your favorites that are back in stock. We are unpacking several new lines right now, and here are just a few we are especially excited about, plus several back by your request.
Lizzy Gass says her artwork is inspired “by a childhood spent reading fairytales and sci-fi books, building forts, and playing in the woods.” Her high-quality postcards showcase intricate, enchanting miniature worlds illustrated in watercolor and ink. They capture the essence of various personas at work or living in an artist's nook, say, or a writer's sanctuary. Each collectible postcard invites viewers to explore fantastical yet familiar realms, reflecting Gass's aim to evoke wonder, adventure, and tranquility through her art. These are really special for the artist, potter, archeologist, or gardener in your life.
Scarves! We have three new lines coming in from around the world. One is a collection of stunning lightweight scarves from East London, by the husband-and-wife team Sam & Kikiyo, of Studio Hop. Handcrafted with delicate artistry, these scarves are a perfect blend of elegance and tradition.
Signare, founded in England in 2010, features “the art of ancient heritage tapestry fused with today’s lifestyle patterns” that are inspired by “nature, by great art, and by life itself.” Our curated selection of their exquisite scarves includes designs by Arts & Crafts era designers William Morris, May Morris, and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We already carry their attractive umbrellas, one of the shop’s popular items, to keep you stylish on a rainy day.
The Museum Shop has become known as something of a stationer’s paradise. So when we found beautifully designed scented pencils by Imogen Owen, crafted with care in a century-old pencil factory, we were smitten. Infused with garden fragrances you might find in the Marston gardens or your own, like rose and jasmine, and presented in a beautifully letterpress-printed box, these pencils are a true delight for the senses. They make the perfect accessory to our extensive selection of stationery, notebooks, and greeting cards. Such unusual pencils make wonderful holiday gifts, too.
Finally, a few of our most popular items are back! Marston House Museum Shop customers cannot get enough of these returning items, returning in both fresh, new designs and old favorites.
Texas Bookman jigsaw puzzles are perfect for puzzle enthusiasts. These 1,000-piece puzzles come in beautiful packaging to match their stunning puzzle designs. Also returning from Texas Bookman is their Mini Notebook Collection—beautifully illustrated, pocket-size notebooks by artists such as Angela Harding. She is a fine art painter and illustrator who specializes in lino prints inspired by birds and countryside.
We're equally excited for the return of Porchlight Press's popular bird-themed tea towels. Inspired by the West Coast's winged creatures and natural beauty, these hand-printed tea towels blend simplicity, charm, and a touch of humor, making them a welcome addition to any kitchen or picnic basket.
Also back on our shelves is SF Mercantile's popular Bear Hug collection. We cannot keep these in stock! This line is inspired by vintage art from the 1913 sheet music for California's State Song, "I Love You, California." Take home some appealing bears—the state animal, after all—on coffee mugs, tea towels, magnets, and greeting cards as keepsakes or gifts for visitors and residents alike.

Left Jigsaw puzzle pieces first begged to be fashioned into complete pictures in the 1760s, and are now more popular than ever. Our returning line of Texas Bookman puzzles showcases artwork by Mabel Royds, Anne Soudain, Bex Parkin, and Kate Heiss. We also carry puzzles from New York Puzzle Co., Frondescence, and Pomegranate. Middle You are in for a real "tweet" with these delightful bird-themed tea towels, made of 100% organic cotton and printed with water-based inks, from Porchlight Press Letterpress. Right The captivating bears portrayed on our California Bear Hug mugs, tea towels, magnets, and greeting cards refer to California’s state song. Pick one of these cute items, or create a collection for anyone who loves California like we do. All photos by Dean Glass except this one, which is courtesy SF Mercantile |
And, finally! To make room for new lines, join us for our End of Summer Sale, when we discount up to 40% remainders of popular lines, weekends through the month of September. Look for Anna Griffin's elegant pink and gold stationery, Arts & Crafts tapestry table runners, and more. Marked down items tend to go fast, so come in soon and take advantage of our “making room” sale.
Remember, by choosing from our array of irresistible treasures, you're not just treating yourself—you're actively supporting the Marston House Museum's cultural programming and preservation efforts.
