Zooming to Our Final Three “Penning the Past” Lectures of 2024
Don’t Miss the Book Signing December 1, Museum Store Sunday
September/October 2024
Since its debut in February 2024, SOHO’s monthly “Penning the Past” webinar series for San Diego history enthusiasts and architecture aficionados has been a big hit. Through this Zoom lecture series, impassioned local writers and historians, sometimes speaking from personal or family experience, explore the fabric and character of San Diego County’s historic neighborhoods. Maybe you’re already among our audiences eager to deepen their understanding of the city’s rich architectural and cultural heritage.
Now that autumn is nearly here, we have just three more hour-long offerings this year, at 11am on Saturdays. On September 14, 2024, Dr. Thomas J. Cesarini will take us through San Diego’s Little Italy, tracing its evolution from a humble fishing village to the vibrant urban neighborhood we know today. Next, on October 12, Allen Hazard and Janet O’Dea will chronicle Mission Hills’ architectural magnificence while sharing stories of visionaries who shaped this remarkable community. On November 9, Leslie Hubbard Crawford will share her love for Coronado, where she has resided over 45 years, through her pictorial compilation that portrays this mighty little island.
Finally, on December 1, we will celebrate this inaugural series with a festive book-signing gathering featuring the “Penning the Past” authors and presenters as part of our annual Museum Store Sunday event. Save the date and stay tuned for details about this chance to meet these local authors and historians. Bring along or buy their books that day to have them signed in person for yourself or the history lovers on your gift list.
SOHO could not have presented “Penning the Past” without the extraordinary, behind-the-scenes volunteer efforts of Janet O’Dea. We extend a very special thank you for her passion and commitment to making this series a success and for her upcoming presentation on Mission Hills. SOHO thanks Janet for contributing expertise, contacts, and organizational skills not to mention being a pleasure to work with!
Please join us for these illuminating Zoom webinars on San Diego’s fascinating cultural and architectural past. Remember, SOHO members watch free, with a modest $10 fee for non-members. Your participation not only promises an enriching experience but also supports SOHO’s vital preservation mission of education and advocacy.
